Overview

Screely processes everything locally in your browser. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any user data. Your screenshots never leave your device unless you explicitly download or share them.

Screely is a screenshot extension for Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave, and others). It enables users to capture, edit, and organize screenshots entirely within the browser. This privacy policy explains what data Screely accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

Data Collection

Screely does not collect any of the following:

Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
Browsing history or activity
Cookies or tracking identifiers
Analytics or usage telemetry
IP addresses or geolocation data

Zero data collection. Screely has no server, no database, and no analytics. The extension operates entirely on your local device with no network communication.

Local Data Storage

Screely stores the following data locally in your browser using the Chrome Storage API:

Screenshots — Images you capture are stored in your browser's local storage for access through the built-in gallery.
User preferences — Settings like default annotation colors, capture mode preferences, and editor configuration.
Editor state — Temporary editing data (canvas state, tool selections) to preserve your work during a session.

All stored data remains on your device and is never transmitted externally. You can delete all stored data at any time by clearing the extension's data through your browser settings or by uninstalling the extension.

Browser Permissions

Screely requests only the permissions necessary to perform its core screenshot functionality. Here is a complete breakdown:

activeTab	To capture the visible area of the tab you're currently viewing when you trigger a screenshot.
tabs	To identify the active tab and retrieve page title/URL for labeling screenshots in the gallery.
scripting	To inject content scripts for custom selection overlays and full-page scroll capture.
storage	To locally store your screenshots, preferences, and editor settings on your device.
downloads	To save screenshots and exported images to your local downloads folder.
offscreen	To stitch full-page captures in a background document without interrupting your browsing.
contextMenus	To provide a right-click menu option for quick screenshot capture from any page.

No permission is used to monitor, track, or collect browsing activity. Each permission is activated only when you explicitly trigger a capture or interact with the extension.

Third-Party Services

Screely does not use any third-party services, SDKs, or external APIs. There are no analytics tools (such as Google Analytics), no crash reporters, no ad networks, and no external servers involved.

The extension is entirely self-contained. All processing — including image capture, editing, and storage — happens locally within your browser.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, rent, or transfer any user data to third parties — for any reason. Since Screely does not collect data, there is no data to share.

Data Security

Your screenshots and settings are stored using Chrome's built-in storage APIs, which are sandboxed and isolated from other extensions and websites. The data is accessible only to the Screely extension and is protected by Chrome's security model.

Children's Privacy

Screely does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The extension does not collect data from any user of any age.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our extension's functionality. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of Screely after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
